Created in 2015, In the Driver’s Seat assists with navigating the NYS Self-Directed service system. Powered by the passion and commitment of volunteers, In the Driver’s Seat provides resources and tools at your fingertips to find solutions and create opportunities that wouldn’t otherwise exist.
Cindy and Joyce stepped up to the plate to help me as I was navigating the difficult and overwhelming Self-Direction process. They helped with overcoming hurdles and practical suggestions. The emotional support that I felt and still feel from Cindy and Joyce is reassuring. I remain grateful to the two amazing founders of In the Driver’s Seat.

2023 – NYS Council on Developmental Disabilities (formerly NYS DDPC) provided grant funding to provide additional resources and support
I’ve found In the Driver’s Seat to be an incredible resource as we were creating and launching my son’s Self-Directed plan. In the Driver’s Seat helped me to identify and train the staff since the launch. I now help other families with their plans and budgets and always refer them to IDS to help with the complexities of Self-Direction. I’m not sure that we would have such a wonderful outcome for our son, were it not for In the Driver’s Seat.
