Profile (keep it short)
Why I am a Support Broker: Being a Mom of special needs children I have a strong desire to help other families navigate through the process and become active members in their communities.
My Experience: My son has been using self direction since July 2016 and I completed my broker training in November 2017. Although I am a new broker, I have a strong support system with fellow brokers and our OPWDD liaisons.
My Unique Qualities: I am actively involved in various areas in the community to allow myself as much knowledge and exposure as possible. I am the LEND parent advocate fellow at the UofR which is a collaboration among therapists and doctors to better support IDD individuals. I am also a member of the Family Support Services Advisory Council which evaluates Region 1 agencies to ensure they are meeting the intent of their funded programs as well look for areas of opportunity. I am starting my the NYS Partners in Policymaking leadership and development in advocacy training for IDD individuals. I am also an active member with AutismUp and as a parent mentor who helps families as they are newly diagnosed and are looking for guidance and support. Most importantly my son is on the spectrum so as a parent I have been in your shoes and I am here to support your family.
My Philosophy/Approach: My approach is to actively listen to best understand what the individual wants while taking into account the concerns of their family and support systems. In the end we all want the same thing- for the individual to be safe, happy, healthy and part of a community. My approach is to provide that in the way that best supports the individual.
