Why I am a Support Broker: My adult son has intellectual and developmental disabilities and I began this journey for him almost 20 years ago. I believe in choice for everyone and respect an individual's right to choices that best meet their needs.
My Experience: I began in the self-determination movement in the late 1990's and have been actively involved on committees ever since. I have seen many changes and continue to stay updated on services and supports for individuals. I was certified as a Train-the-Trainer for Person Centered Planning through Cornell University in 2001.
My Unique Qualities: I value and respect all individuals as equals and know each of us has gifts to share with each other. I know ASL, but am not fluent.
My Philosophy/Approach: My creativity in looking for unique opportunities, plus my knowledge of systems allows me to offer many options in creating plans. I encourage the individual and their circle of support to make decisions in their own time frame. Part of the success is empowering individuals and their circle to do the leg work with my guidance.
